Information on your birth control options This day and age there are so many options for you to choose which birth control would be the best one for you. I had a hard time choosing because I didn't have all the information I felt I needed. I had either the pill or the shot when I was looking for options. Neither were the ones for me. I knew with the pill I would forget to take it and I would end up pregnant and with the shot I knew there was a good chance I would gain the weight I was so trying to lose. I chose to go with the pill. I forgot it more than I remembered it. This was not the best choice for me. I switched to the shot and gained 80 pounds, I was not happy and am still not happy cause it's hard to shed that weight. I ended up having a baby and thanks to that I finally found the birth control I was looking for. So this it to help all women in the search for a birth control that they feel will fit their life styles. Abstinence I choose this one to be the first one because it's the most important one. I feel this is the best type of birth control but as we all know this one isn't much used. I feel that this is the only way to not get pregnant. It's the only one that guarantee 100 percent effective. Barrier Methods These I am sure most of you have all heard about at some point and time in your life. There are the well-known condoms. This can go for both male and female. They come in latex and lamb skin. They also come in different colors and feelings to them for more pleasure. There is also the sponge. Using the sponge with a spermicide is a good way to also help prevent pregnancy. There are also the diaphragm and cervical cap. These you will need to see your doctor for to have your doctor fit them to you. With these types of birth control you run the risk of getting a urinary track infection. The Pill The pill works because it has two types of hormones in it that help you from ovulating 'till you're on the sugar pills. These hormones are progestin and estrogen. With the pill for it to be effective you need to take it every day like clock work. This means you need to take it every day at the same time, If a pill is missed, I would go without for at least a week till you know you are back on track and taking it at the same time everyday. If you feel that you can't wait that long I would back it up with another type of protection. I decided to list the different types here for you so you can see that there is more than one option. Yaz, yasmine, alesse, brevicon, cyclen, diane 35, linessa, femcon Fe, loestrin 20, loestrin 24 FE, loestrin 30, ortho, portia, ovcon 35, marvelon, nordette, micronor discreet, ortho-cept, minestrin, mircette, seasonal, seasonique, select, tri cyclen, and last but not least triquilar. Some side affects that the pill can have been nausea, head aches, acne, sore breasts, bloating, weight gain, increased blood pressure, and depression. Depo-Provera This birth control is in the form of a shot. You get a shot once every three months. When I was on this birth control, I liked that I didn't have to remember to take the pill every day at the same time. Some side effects that can happen with the depo shot are change in sex drive, change in appetite, depression, spotting, some may have a longer, heavier period, weight gain, hair loss, increase hair on face and body, headaches, nausea, dizziness, nervousness, rash, darkening of the skin, and sore breasts. The Mini-Pill This is like the pill but instead of having two hormones in the pill it only has one. This pill only has progestin in it. This pill works by thickening cervical mucus so sperm can't get to your egg. This is a pill you must also take every day at the same time daily. As with the pills if you miss a pill or take it late you should use another form of protection for at least a week. This pill is good for women over the age of 35, who have a risk of blood clots, or for women who can't take estrogen. Implanon This type of birth control is implanted in your arm. It can be taken out at any time. It will last for up to three years. Some side effects with this type of birth control are spotting, heavier periods, acne, change in sex drive, changes in appetite, cysts on the ovaries, depression, discoloring or scarring of the skin over the implant ,dizziness, hair loss, headaches, nausea, nervousness, pain at the insertion site, sore breasts Nuvaring The nuvaring is a small flexible plastic that is inserted in your vagina. This is done by you and you don't need a doctor to fit it to you at all. This one stays in for three weeks and then out for a week. This birth control can last for months in the refrigerator or out and in a cool place. You get three rings at a time. There is a chance that the ring can come out but in the almost two years I have been using the ring I have never had that happen. Some side effects with this type of birth control are bleeding between periods, breast tenderness, nausea and vomiting Ortho evra patch The patch can be placed on your butt, hip, or on your arm. You wear a patch for a week and then, change the patch to a new spot on your body. Some problems with the patch are that they seem to catch on your clothes and then fall off. Some side effects with this type of birth control are Bleeding between periods, breast tenderness, nausea and vomiting IUD'S and IUS These types of birth controls are placed inside your uterus by your doctor. They are normally a T shape. They work by thickening the cervical mucus so sperm can't get to the egg. The cool thing about these types of birth control is the hormones used change the lining of the uterus so that if the sperm does get to the egg it can't implant in the uterus wall. These types of IUD's and IUS can stay in anywhere from one year to five. To have this birth control removed you need a doctor. It can be taken out at any time. Some side effects with this type of birth control are you think you might be pregnant, have periods that are much heavier than normal or last much longer than normal, have severe abdominal cramping, pain, or tenderness in the abdomen, have pain or bleeding during sex, have unexplained fever and/or chills, have flu-like symptoms, such as muscle aches or tiredness, have unusual vaginal discharge, have a missed, late, or unusually light period, have unexplained vaginal bleeding Plan B This is not a birth control that you can take everyday but it is one you should know about in case if you find yourself in a spot where you don't want to be. If you had unprotected sex, forgot to take your birth control for a few days and then had sex or if you were raped. This will be given to you. This is not a pill you can use as a birth control for everyday. This pill should be taken right away. You take two pills 12 hours apart. If you are already pregnant it will NOT abort your pregnancy. And it will not effect a pregnancy on the way meaning if your egg is already been fertilized. I think it is also important to note that these birth controls will NOT prevent you from getting aids, HIV or any other type of std's. |
